Containment-Lite

This article's main point is explaining how we need to have control on China without really intruding onto their land and taking over. The title of this article is saying how we need to contain China, but in the sneakiest way possible. By becoming friendly with the countries surrounding China we have a close eye on them without us physically containing them. China has a way of using other countries, because one thing they need most is oil. China and America use do business together a lot. Although America strongly disagrees with their political views. So in a way, we just want to have China make our plastic toys and thats all.  If we become friends with India and China isn't smart, the Indian-American people will be in this together to go against China.

Do You Believe the Hype?

I believe the hype in a way because it is quite unbelievable how there are 15 million new cellphone users in India being added each MONTH. I think their makeshift banks is an interesting invention. I don't exactly understand how it works to make transactions and deposits from your cellphone, but the people in India sure do. India has such a big population, but people believe they are moving slowly. They are just getting their basic technologies going, but this isn't where it stops. With India's new improvements, I wouldn't be surprised if they kept coming up with new and improved ideas. I believe we need to keep a close eye on the improving globalization of India.

Assignment #2

Density: This tab is about the density of the world in 2000. There are places that are highly populated and some that are not. This section talks about the largest populated areas in the world.
Essay Question: What are 3 areas in the world that have lower than 1 million people populating that area?

Growth: This section is talking about the growth in our world in this century. Most of the growth in the next half of the century will be because resources are being used up before there are more. Some areas of the world will double in size at insane time intervals.
Essay Question: Why do you think the United States area has scattered coloring, especially in the middle?

Cities: This tab is saying how so much of the world is becoming urbanized. But by doing this its hurting the world at the same time. City populations are making the air polluted and it is affecting the health of people and natural habitats.
Essay Question: What are the reasons some areas of the world aren't becoming urbanized. Give 3 reasons.

Water: This section is describing how the Earth's water supply is scare in some parts of the world. Some people believe we can replenish our water with new water-saving methods. By growing crops that require less water and rainwater harvesting, this might be able to help our water supply. Although it will be centuries before freshwater will ever be plentiful again around the world.
Essay Question: What areas in the world are technically very short on fresh drinking water?

Air: This tab it pretty much straight forward. The air is being polluted with carbon dioxide. The United States, Europe, China, and Japan are the most polluted areas. It is clear that plants cannot reverse it all, so this is only going to get worse.
Essay Question: What are the 2 least polluted areas?

Climate: This section blames carbon dioxide and fossil fuel emissions for global warming. With the thick layer of of heat covering our Earth, the temperatures are going to increase. Some plants and animals will become extinct because of the heat or cold of the weather from some parts of the world.
Essay Question: What is something we can do to prevent this from getting worse?


Forests: There are hardly any forests left. Also, the 40 percent of the world's remaining forests are endangered. A very large portion of forest loss has occurred over the past 30 years.
Essay Question: What do you think will happen to the rest of the forests in the next 50 years?

Land: The world's agricultural topsoil is being diminished by urbanization and other human-induced factors. Large areas of the world are already fully transformed and or partially transformed. We are using the world's land for our own uses.
Essay Question: What are the main areas that the world's land is being mostly used?

Habitats: The habitats of the coral reefs are in major danger. There has been "bleaching" of reefs which can in the future lead to unprotected island shorelines, endangered fish homes, and several other animal species. The coral reefs are home to over 25 percent of all sea creatures.
Essay Question: How do you think coral bleaching should be stopped?

The Battle of the Billionaires

In this story, the population of India is being compared to the population of China. They talk about India's population and you have to wonder...who really cares about the India vs. China populations. I care about this topic, and I think people should care because most of our world is ending up being Chinese or Indian. The story says how because of India's fertility it is just going to keep growing throughout the 21st century. For China on the other hand, the have an enforced law limiting families to only have one child. With this law getting in the way of China's fertility, India with surpass China's birth rate exceedingly. I think it is wrong in a way for governments to force families to have smaller families. I think it's wrong because most people in the world don't want to have only one child. Although the rate for Chinese women used to be six children, I don't think it was fair to drop it from six to one. I think it would have been more fair if they made the rate two or three children. In the way where I think it's sort of fair is that, at least I know that I don't want the whole world by the end of this century to consist of Indians and Chinese people.
